Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-12-20
This Privacy Policy explains how StrataGist collects, uses, and shares information when you use the StrataGist website and app (the “Service”).
1. Information you provide
You may provide information such as tasks, goals, notes, journal entries, and other content you enter into the Service. If you contact support, you may provide additional information in your message.
2. Local-first storage on your device
By default, your StrataGist data is stored in your browser on your device (for example, using IndexedDB and local storage). If you clear your browser data or use a different device/browser, your locally stored data may be removed or unavailable.
3. Authentication (if enabled)
If sign-in is enabled, authentication is provided by a third-party identity provider (for example, Clerk). That provider processes sign-in and account information under their own privacy policy. StrataGist receives an identifier used to associate your data with your account.
4. Google Drive sync (optional)
If you enable Google Drive sync, the Service will request permission to access your Google Drive “appDataFolder” and will upload/download a JSON backup file associated with your account (for example, named like stratagist_<user_id>.json). This data is stored in your Google account and is governed by Google’s terms and privacy policy. You can disconnect Drive sync at any time in Settings.
5. AI features (optional)
If you use AI-powered features (such as “AI Organize”), the text you submit may be sent to an AI provider for processing (for example, OpenAI) in order to generate suggestions. Your AI API key, if used, is stored locally on your device and is sent only to perform the AI request. Do not submit sensitive information you do not want processed by third parties.
6. Analytics and usage data
The Service may collect limited usage/diagnostic information to understand performance and improve the product (for example, via Vercel Analytics). This data typically includes high-level usage metrics and technical details such as browser/device information and approximate location derived from IP address.
7. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
- Sync and restore your data when you enable optional backup features
- Provide AI features when you request them
- Prevent abuse, troubleshoot, and improve performance
- Communicate with you about support requests
8. Sharing
We share information with third-party service providers only as needed to operate the Service (for example, hosting/analytics, authentication, AI processing, and Google Drive sync when you enable it), and as required by law.
9. Data retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete it (for example, by clearing browser storage). If you enable Google Drive sync, backups remain in your Google account until you delete them or disconnect and remove the stored file. Operational logs and analytics (if enabled) are retained for a limited period consistent with the provider’s defaults and our operational needs.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your choices
- Disconnect Drive sync: You can disconnect Google Drive sync from Settings.
- Delete local data: You can clear your browser storage for this site to remove locally stored data.
- AI usage: You can choose not to use AI features and avoid sending text to AI providers.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the most recent changes.
